The Story of Lucienne Buga

Could you tell me a little about yourself?

I started my journey at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, as a pharmacy student and continued with an MBA, MPH (public health) in Chisinau.

In the meantime I attended private courses focusing on drawing, tapestry, interior design, Japanese ikebana, stone Collections, to finally arrive in Bucharest and study under the guidance of David Sandu at Assamblage School of Contemporary Jewelry. In 2011, I completed my studies at the specialized jeweler college ”MondoStudArt” in Chisinau. Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School is my next step I’d like to go through.

What materials do you most enjoy working with, and why?

I like using atypical materials for jewellery and combining them in an original way with metal or something rarely used. For example: bone with gold leaf, resin with metal, ceramic with beads, leather with polymer clay and horse hair.

Why ? Because that's how I discover new ways of expression and I'm passionate about this game of imagination.

What are some of your favorite techniques?

I do not have any preferences. Or else, I like to combine things that apparently do not seem to combine with each other.

What would you like the customer to feel when they see your jewellery?

Joy. To feel unique and unrepeatable wearing this jewel.

How do you see your work in the future?

The world will appreciate my work for its libertine and unique style.

How do you measure the success of an artist?

Success comes when you are appreciated by your colleagues in the field and of course by the public.

What is your favorite thing besides jewelry?

I like to dance!

Tell us about a collection you are proud of and why?

"The Human Soul" made of bones and covered with gold leaf. Here I have a crown "Pshiheea Up and Down" and many women have tried it. Through this jewel, I felt that I gave them a part of the love I have in me.

Tell me about one of your last pieces and what inspired you?

One of my recently made pieces is the glasses made with beads and ceramics. The collection is called "Advice". This word is taken from tantric philosophy and the initial meaning is - to know the World, Creation and Yourself.

What inspired me? The transformations I feel in myself following the meditation I practice. The glasses physically show the product of imagination and the fact that the world can be a result of it. People are very excited about this idea, of wearing imaginary glasses so they can imagine something too.

Place of inspiration or what exactly inspires you?

I get inspiration from nature. There is a lot of love in nature. The beautiful is part of me.

What advice can you give to those starting this job?

To have courage in everything they want to do and to go to the end.
