"Breathe Necklace" - 1st Award VDW
"Breathe" necklace was exhibited during Venice Design Week 2023 as part of the exhibition "I don't shine. I have something to say" and received the 1st award - “Voice of the Public”.
Remember your first time filling your lungs with air? It happened naturally, without you needing to consciously do anything. We are born to breathe, but sometimes we unlearn this reflex. It is the utmost sign of life, strongly associated with movement. The lungs, the diaphragm are engaging in this indispensable pattern so that we could experience life.
Breathing indicates how we feel, though pace and intensity, but also through the way we exhale air, modulating the voice while speaking. You probably noticed how the way you inhale or exhale is influenced by feelings, thoughts and states of mind, but this also works the other way around.
Stand straight, don't move your shoulders and "feel your stomach breathing", or forget everything, clear your mind and just be. Take a moment and practice either of them right now. Reconnect with your body, learn its patterns and use them in your favor.
The word "breathe" is included in this necklace so that the letters are prone to motion, as a reminder for you to cherish the way your lungs move, allowing everything to happen.
The choice of copper for the letters reflects a symbol of life, due to its color, but also because there is beauty in changing appearance over time, just as the copper does with the passage of time or different environments.
If you allow this word to get in contact with your skin, it will probably leave a trace: physically because of the properties the copper has, and metaphorically because of the intimacy that feeling someone breathing comes with.
As a symbol to get in touch with your body, understand balance, learn about pace and intensity through sound and motion, the necklace contains an interactive moving element in its lower part.
Materials: Sterling Silver (925), Freshwater Pearls, Copper, Thread.
Available for Sale after the exhibition ends.
Special thanks to all the jewelry lovers who were able to visit VDW, to those who supported my work from a distance, to the teams of Arte Design Venezia and Venice Jewelry Week and to Eleonora Varotto for making everything happen so beautifully. <3
